At How2Sport we love sending beginners to the best free coaching online. For volleyball technique, our favourite is Elevate Yourself. If you want clear, step-by-step lessons on the core skills, Coach Donny’s videos are a brilliant place to start.

What is Elevate Yourself?

Elevate Yourself is a YouTube channel run by Coach Donny (Donald Hui) — with around 890,000 subscribers, it’s the largest personal volleyball brand on YouTube. A long-time high-school and club coach in the US, he teaches the core skills (passing, setting, serving, hitting and blocking) with an “underdog mindset”: the right technique plus practice beats raw talent.

Why it’s great for beginners

Each skill is broken into simple, repeatable steps — the passing platform, footwork, contact point — exactly the things beginners get wrong. There are separate fundamentals series for passing, setting, serving and hitting, so you can follow one path instead of random clips. For most beginners the forearm pass is the hardest skill, and that’s where this channel is strongest.

How to follow him

Start with one skill series and drill it before you play:

How we’d use it with How2Sport

Combine his videos with our own beginner material: start with the volleyball basics and our forearm pass guide, pick one cue from a video (for example, keeping your arms still and letting your legs do the work), then drill just that in your next session.

How2Sport is not affiliated with Elevate Yourself or Coach Donny. This is an independent recommendation; all videos remain the property of their owner.
