Why now is the perfect time

Tennis is one of the few sports you can pick up at any age. Whether you're 15 or 55, a lifelong athlete or a confirmed couch potato — the tennis court welcomes everyone. And the best part: you don't need to be good at it to enjoy it from day one.

"I started at 42. After three lessons I could already rally decently. That feeling during your first long exchange is priceless."

What you actually need

  • A racket — a beginner racket costs 30–60 euros
  • Tennis balls — a tube of three costs a few euros
  • A court — most towns have public courts
  • Good shoes with lateral support

Your first steps on court

The biggest mistake beginners make? Playing points straight away and losing motivation because everything goes into the net. Do it differently: find a wall. Hit the ball gently, let it bounce. Ten minutes a day and your feel improves rapidly.

Then find a partner at the same level. Rallying without keeping score is the most fun and effective way to learn.

The one tip that changes everything

Watch the ball. Not your opponent, not the court — the ball. Until it hits your strings. Most beginners look away too soon. Practice this consciously and your accuracy will double within a week.

"Tennis teaches concentration, patience and resilience — qualities useful far beyond the court."
